Kwara Fire Service Contained Blaze at Ilorin Housing Estate

On Wednesday, a fire broke out at the Agba Dam Housing Estate in Ilorin, Kwara State, around 1pm, destroying a four-bedroom flat. The incident was reportedly initiated by a spark from a transmission line, which led to flames originating from the building’s distribution board.
The Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed by spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, received a distress call at 12:18hrs. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had affected three bedrooms.
Neighbors initially mistook the smoke for a refuse fire but alerted the fire service when the situation escalated. Despite a delay in the initial call, the firefighters managed to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed praised the firefighters for their swift action and urged residents to take electrical fire warnings seriously, advising them to report any unusual sparks or electrical faults immediately and to ensure regular inspections of electrical installations by qualified professionals.
