Major Fire Outbreak in Ilorin Destroys Shops and Flats

On Sunday, at approximately 1:36pm, a significant fire outbreak occurred at a storey building in Ita-Amodu, Niger Junction, Ilorin, within the Ilorin West local government area. The building housed three-bedroom flats and 10 shops.

Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed that two fire appliances were deployed to the scene due to the fire's magnitude. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire involved mattresses and highly combustible sofa materials, which intensified its spread. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire fully developed, necessitating the immediate deployment of a second appliance to assist in firefighting efforts.

The fire was brought under control by 14:05hrs, thanks to the collaboration between the federal and state fire services. Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed commended the firefighters for their bravery and teamwork and urged business owners dealing with combustible materials to prioritize fire safety measures.
