Kwara State Launches Livestock Entrepreneurship Scheme

The Kwara State Government has unveiled an ambitious plan to commercialize the livestock sector through the Livestock Entrepreneurship Scheme, aimed at transforming agriculture into a viable business. Announced by Oloruntoyosi Thoma, the initiative targets the empowerment of women and youth, creating sustainable livestock enterprises to enhance food security and position the state as a major player in Nigeria's livestock value chain.

The program emphasizes practical skills and mentorship rather than theoretical training, ensuring beneficiaries can become job creators. The scheme will adopt modern climate-smart agricultural practices and focus on two key components: women livestock and youth livestock.

The project will commence with three core programs, including black soldier fly production, beekeeping, and small ruminant rearing. The government has secured partnerships with off-takers to ensure steady demand for livestock products, committing to provide logistical support and access to financing through institutions like FCMB and Jaiz Bank at single-digit interest rates.

The initiative has received commendations from various agricultural leaders for its potential to empower youth and strengthen the agricultural value chain in Kwara State.
