Kwara State Trains 44 Lab Scientists on Malaria and TB

The Kwara State Government has launched a 10-day training program for 44 Medical Laboratory Scientists aimed at improving the accuracy of malaria and tuberculosis diagnoses. The training is being conducted in two batches at Peace Hotel, Ilorin, and includes both theoretical and practical sessions.

Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, the Commissioner for Health, opened the training, emphasizing its importance in enhancing diagnostic accuracy and saving lives. She urged participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge in their workplaces and highlighted the critical role of laboratory personnel in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Oluwatosin Fakayode, the Director of Public Health, stated that the training aims to build the capacity of laboratory scientists in microscopy for malaria and tuberculosis. Dr Oladosu Oladipo from the ANDI Centre of Excellence for Malaria Diagnosis commended the government's investment in diagnostic capacity and recommended establishing a dedicated center for malaria diagnosis to further strengthen services in the state.
