Kwara State Government Cracks Down on Illegal Dumping

The Kwara State Government has issued a warning to residents against the illegal dumping of refuse, particularly in road medians and unauthorized locations. Environment Commissioner Nafisat Buge stated that such practices pose serious environmental health risks and could trigger disease outbreaks.

This announcement was made following a review report submitted by the Environmental Health Officers and the Ministry's task force. The government is renewing its enforcement drive to improve public health and prevent flooding caused by blocked drainage systems.

Buge emphasized the need for intensified monitoring activities within Ilorin, especially against indiscriminate waste disposal and noise pollution. The enforcement team has already sealed off two facilities for excessive noise levels and arrested six offenders for dumping refuse in road medians.

Violators of environmental regulations will face the full weight of the law, as the government is committed to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and healthier Kwara State. Residents are urged to comply with existing regulations, especially during festive periods when social gatherings increase.
