Rhodes-Vivour Calls for Hamzat's Disqualification in Lagos Race

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Lagos State governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called for the disqualification of his opponent, Obafemi Hamzat, from the gubernatorial race. Rhodes-Vivour claims that Hamzat's oath of allegiance to a foreign nation violates constitutional requirements for candidates.

In an interview on Arise Television, he clarified that there is a misunderstanding regarding dual citizenship. He explained that while individuals born with dual citizenship do not have to swear an oath of allegiance, adults who acquire it must do so, which is the case with Hamzat.

Rhodes-Vivour emphasized that the constitution mandates disqualification for candidates who have sworn such oaths, stating, “Hamzat’s oath of allegiance to a foreign nation should disqualify him from the governorship bid.” He further elaborated on the implications of swearing an oath of allegiance, noting that it signifies a commitment to serve the interests of that nation.
