Rhodes-Vivour Calls for Hamzat's Disqualification in Lagos Race

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Lagos State governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that Obafemi Hamzat, his counterpart from the All Progressives Congress (APC), should be disqualified from the gubernatorial race. This assertion was made during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday.

Rhodes-Vivour argued that Hamzat's dual citizenship is misunderstood, emphasizing that obtaining dual citizenship as an adult requires swearing an oath of allegiance to a foreign nation, which he claims Hamzat has done. According to Rhodes-Vivour, the Nigerian constitution stipulates that such a candidate should be disqualified.

He clarified that children born with dual citizenship do not have to take an oath, unlike adults who apply for citizenship. Rhodes-Vivour stressed the significance of the oath, stating it signifies a commitment to the foreign nation, which could conflict with the duties expected of a Nigerian governor.
