Lagos APC Primaries Oust Key Assembly Leaders Ahead of 2027

The Lagos State chapter of the APC experienced a significant shake-up during its primaries, resulting in the ousting of key Assembly powerbrokers. Notable figures such as Noheem Babatunde Adam, the Assembly's major leader representing Eti Osa, and Desmond Elliot, representing Surulere, lost their return tickets.

Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker, did not secure his APC ticket, while Fatai Moje, the chief whip representing Ibeju Lekki, and David Setonji, the deputy chief whip, also faced defeat. This restructuring is expected to alter the Assembly's hierarchy significantly ahead of the 2027 elections.

New candidates, including Barakat Odunuga, who defeated Elliot, and others like Gbolahan Yishawu and Mayowa Alakija, have emerged in the primaries. The outcome reflects a broader strategy to rebalance interests within the APC as the party prepares for upcoming electoral challenges, particularly the 2027 governorship race.
