Obasa Eyes House of Reps Seat for Agege in 2027

Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is reportedly contemplating a run for the House of Representatives seat representing the Agege Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This potential shift in his political ambitions may indicate a broader strategy, as he has previously been linked to a gubernatorial bid.

Obasa is engaging in extensive consultations across Lagos State to build support, leveraging the political structure associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) suggest that the party leadership, led by Tinubu, may prefer current Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for the governorship candidacy.

Obasa is also exploring the possibility of contesting for the Lagos West senatorial seat but has faced resistance from influential party stakeholders, particularly in support of incumbent Senator Idiat Adebul. Following consultations, Tinubu reportedly encouraged Obasa to pursue the House of Representatives seat instead, focusing on the Agege Federal Constituency, which is currently occupied by Wale Ahmed.

Obasa has begun low-profile grassroots engagements in preparation for the 2027 elections.
