Sanwo-Olu Advocates for Economic Integration in Lagos

During a keynote address at the South West Nigeria Geoeconomic Hub Summit held on Saturday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos's integral role in the South West region and pledged to champion economic integration for growth across the area. As the chairman of the South West Governor Forum, he stressed the need for stronger collaboration among South West states to develop a regional approach to economic strategies.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos contributes significantly to Nigeria's GDP, being the second-largest metropolitan economy in Africa, with an output exceeding $259.75 billion on a purchasing power parity basis. He highlighted ongoing investments in transport infrastructure, including the blue and red rail lines and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Sanwo-Olu also called for the recognition of Lagos's historical role as Nigeria's former federal capital and its strategic importance to the national economy, advocating for a special status for the state. He assured investors of Lagos's openness to partnerships with the private sector.
