Lagos Governor Backs CIS N5bn Fund and Literacy Drive

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pledged support for the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) during a courtesy visit from the Institute's president, Dr Fiona Ahimie, and other principal officers. The CIS aims to establish a N5 billion endowment fund to enhance professional training and capacity development in Nigeria’s capital market.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of increasing public participation in the capital market and urged the Institute to intensify financial literacy campaigns to help Nigerians make informed investment decisions. He noted that while the Nigerian capital market has seen significant growth, broader public engagement is essential for wealth creation and economic development.
Dr Ahimie revealed that the CIS is collaborating with the Office of the Vice President to train 10 million Nigerians in financial literacy, particularly targeting young people. The Institute's 30th Annual Conference is scheduled for November 4 and 5, 2026, in Lagos, focusing on strategies for mobilizing capital and enhancing Nigeria's global competitiveness.
