Lagos Inaugurates Committee for Akran of Badagry’s Dignified Burial

Lagos State has established a Central Planning Committee to oversee the final burial rites of the late Akran of Badagry, Oba Babatunde Akran, who passed away at the age of 89 after a 48-year reign. The committee, inaugurated on February 8, 2026, at the Akran's palace, is tasked with ensuring a dignified and transparent burial in strict adherence to traditional norms.

Mr. Abimbola Salu Hundeyin chairs the committee, with Mr.

Jimi Ahisu Nunayon Ahisuo as the co-chairman and Dr. Olajide Messewaku Awish among the key members.

The committee includes representatives from various government bodies and emphasizes cultural significance over political aspects. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also announced plans to construct a new Badagry Central Palace as part of ongoing infrastructure projects to honor the late monarch's commitment to development.
