Ojodu Local Council Launches Free Surgery for Children

The Ojodu Local Council Development Area in Lagos State has initiated a one-week free surgical programme for children aged 18 and below, aimed at reducing the financial burden of specialized medical treatment on families. Launched on Tuesday at Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, the programme is organized in collaboration with several partners, including Life Care Development Foundation and Children Heritage Outreach from the United Kingdom.
Conditions treated include breast lumps, hernias, and soft tissue pathologies. Council chairman David Odunmbaku stated that the initiative, themed ‘Bringing Hope and Healing to our Children,’ is part of his administration’s HEYS Agenda, which prioritizes health.
He emphasized the importance of healthcare for educational achievement and community development. Odunmbaku also noted that 1,269 minor surgeries had been performed at rebuilt primary healthcare centres through the See-A-Doctor programme.
The Chief Medical Director of Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, Taiwo Oluyemi, praised the initiative, highlighting its significance in providing high-quality surgical services.
