Lagos, Oyo, Ogun declare August 20 public holiday to mark Isese Day

Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states have declared August 20th as a public holiday to commemorate Isese Day, an annual celebration of the traditional religion and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos approved the holiday for public servants, emphasizing the importance of honoring traditional beliefs in shaping the social and cultural identity of the region.

In Oyo, Governor Seyi Makinde also declared the public holiday, urging residents to use the day to pray for peace and unity. Similarly, the Ogun state government recognized the significance of Yoruba heritage and traditions, stating that the celebration of Isese Day fosters a sense of community and invites broader society to appreciate the rich cultural tapestry of the Yoruba tradition.

Work will resume on August 21st in all three states.
