JUST IN: Nigerian Governors Declare Fresh Public Holiday

Nigerian Governors of Oyo and Lagos States have declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate the Isese Day celebration. Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde approved the holiday, urging residents to use the day to pray for peace, unity, and stability in the state.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, and released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju. Similarly, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State declared the same date as a public holiday for workers in the state.

The Isese Day is dedicated to celebrating Yoruba traditional religion and culture and is observed annually in several states in Nigeria.
