Lagos Reports Over 978,000 Malaria Cases in 2025

In 2025, Lagos State recorded over 978,000 malaria cases treated across public and private health facilities, as disclosed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health District, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi.

This announcement was made during the 2026 World Malaria Day commemoration held at the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Secretariat on April 29, 2026. Dr.

Asiyanbi stressed the importance of residents adopting proper health-seeking behaviors and warned against self-medication, urging strict adherence to prescribed malaria treatments as part of efforts to eliminate the disease. The event featured advocacy and community engagement activities aimed at strengthening malaria elimination efforts, with participation from stakeholders, including representatives from the private health sector.

Dr. Abimbola Oshinowo outlined key policies and strategies for malaria control, noting that malaria remains a significant public health challenge, particularly among children under five.

The program included discussions on barriers to testing and treatment adherence, with experts identifying issues such as reliance on clinical diagnoses and low community awareness.
