Lagos State Government aims for 3,000MW power by 2027
The Lagos State Government has announced an initiative to increase electricity supply to over 3,000 megawatts (MW) by March 2027, up from below 1,000MW. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this announcement at the fourth Lagos Business School Africa Energy Conference (AEC 2026), where he was represented by his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
The government aims to mobilise an additional 2,000MW through various resources, including national grid resources, independent power projects, and energy hubs. To achieve this target, a seven-point action plan has been outlined, focusing on enhancing the Lagos Electricity Market, increasing generation, and improving transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The plan also includes strengthening gas-to-power arrangements and deploying digital systems for better monitoring and transparency. Sanwo-Olu called for collaboration from investors and energy operators, emphasizing that reliable electricity is crucial for industrial growth and improved living standards.
