Lagos State Plans Major Power Capacity Boost for Lekki

Lagos State aims to enhance electricity capacity in the Lekki corridor to between 2,500MW and 3,000MW as economic activities grow in the area. This announcement was made during a tour of power facilities led by Mrs. Temitope George, Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC).
Engr. Adekunle Olopade, an Executive Member of LASERC, inquired about a transmission project by the FGN Power Company, questioning if it would meet current and future capacity needs. Engr. Umezurike Engr. Moses, Assistant General Manager at TCN Ajah Substation, detailed the project's phases, with Epe as the immediate priority.
The first phase includes a 132kV line and a 330kV station at Epe, connecting to the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The TCN Lekki station currently has a transformer capacity of 300MVA, with a load capacity of about 240MW.
The developments are part of a broader effort to decentralize the electricity market under the new regulatory framework established by the Electricity Act 2023 and Lagos Electricity Law 2024.
