Lagos State to Recover Unpaid Taxes Through Banks and Employers, LIRS Announces

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has declared its intention to recover unpaid taxes by utilizing its statutory authority to collect from third parties such as banks, employers, debtors, tenants, and business partners. The announcement, made by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Mr.

Ayodele Subair, empowers the agency under Section 60 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 to recover outstanding tax liabilities from defaulting taxpayers. The LIRS will enforce mechanisms to efficiently recover unpaid taxes, including income tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty, and withholding tax.

Failure to comply with the directives may lead to penalties, interest, and enforcement measures like distraint and possible prosecution.
