Lagos State Electricity Regulator Understudies NERC to Strengthen Power Regulation

Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) has initiated a process to understudy the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as part of efforts to bolster power regulation in Lagos State. The LASERC delegation, led by Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr.

Biodun Ogunley, visited NERC to deepen their understanding of electricity market regulation and apply global best practices within their jurisdiction. LASERC is responsible for regulating the electricity market in Lagos State, overseeing operations like metering and ensuring proper energy accounting within the state.

The collaboration between LASERC and NERC aims to build a robust subnational electricity market, emphasizing fairness, objectivity, and continuous learning. The newly constituted LASERC board is charged with providing strategic leadership and regulatory oversight in electricity generation, distribution, supply licensing, market operations, and consumer protection in line with Lagos State's electricity reform agenda.
