LAWMA Seals Buildings and Arrests Cart Pushers for Waste Dumping

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) conducted an operation on Ago Palace Way, Okota, sealing more than 25 buildings, including a Mobil filling station, due to environmental and regulatory infractions related to illegal waste dumping. The operation, led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, involved extensive resources such as compactor trucks and street sweepers to clear accumulated refuse.
Cart pushers were arrested, including Shamusi Muritala, who admitted to charging customers up to N5,000 for illegal waste disposal on road medians. LAWMA's statement indicated that the operation aimed to address recurrent illegal dumping and involved the enforcement of environmental regulations.
The authority also highlighted the role of informal waste disposal businesses in the issue. LAWMA plans to continue waste evacuation and public engagement to maintain a cleaner environment and curb illegal dumping activities.
