LAWMA Seals Markets Over Illegal Waste Disposal

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed several markets, shopping complexes, and commercial premises along the Ikotun-Igando axis due to environmental violations related to illegal waste disposal. This enforcement operation was conducted on Saturday by LAWMA’s Project WISE West team along the LASU-Igando Road corridor in the Alimosho Local Government Area.

The action followed repeated incidents of refuse dumping on road medians despite prior warnings. Markets sealed include Owode Market, Omo Oba Shopping Complex, Oja Oba Market, Irewolede Market, Egan Junction Market, BoA Shopping Complex, and Blissful Electronics Stores.

Additionally, LAWMA issued notices of intention to seal more premises along the Ojuelegba-Lawanson-Itire corridor. Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director and CEO of LAWMA, stated that the operation was a response to improved environmental compliance observed in other areas.

He emphasized that affected premises would remain sealed until compliance conditions are met and warned against dumping waste in unauthorized locations.
