Leah Sharibu Remains Captive, Yobe Government Confirms

Maham Goje, the Secretary to the Government of Yobe State, disclosed in an exclusive interview that Leah Sharibu is the only Dapchi schoolgirl still held captive since the mass abduction in February 2018. Goje stated that all other girls have regained their freedom, but Leah remains in captivity due to her refusal to renounce her Christian faith.

The Yobe State Government, under Governor Mai Mala Buni, has been working since 2019 to improve security and restore peace in the region, which has been severely affected by Boko Haram insurgency. Goje emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring Leah's release and has made significant progress in restoring security across local government areas.

He also mentioned ongoing efforts to support displaced persons and rebuild communities affected by the insurgency, including agricultural and healthcare initiatives. The Dapchi abduction incident, which involved 110 schoolgirls, has drawn widespread condemnation and concern regarding the safety of schools in the northeast.
