This win guarantees Lens a top-three finish in Ligue 1, moving them nine points clear of fourth-place Lille with two matches remaining. Nantes, on the other hand, will finish in the bottom two and face relegation to the second tier.

The match was held at Stade Bollaert, where a crowd of 38,000 witnessed the celebration. Nantes' coach Vahid Halilhodzic, who is the third coach this season, could not prevent the team's relegation.
