Libyan police detain six Nigerians, local driver, mother over suspected human smuggling

Libyan authorities have detained six Nigerians, a local driver, and the driver's mother over suspected involvement in a human smuggling operation in Sirte. The arrests were made by the Abu Najim Police Department during a vehicle interception.

Inside the car, officers found six undocumented Nigerian migrants who were allegedly being transported as part of the smuggling attempt. The group, including the driver and his mother, has been transferred to the appropriate legal authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Libya has been a central transit point for migrants, especially from Africa, attempting the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe. The Migrant Rescue Watch (MRW) confirmed the arrests and highlighted the ongoing challenges of human smuggling in the region.
