APC's Challenge in Katsina Post-Buhari Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is confronted with a new political reality in Katsina as it prepares for the 2027 general elections following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari's influence was pivotal in establishing Katsina as a stronghold for the APC, where he garnered overwhelming support even before the party's formation in 2013.

His leadership symbolized integrity and northern political identity, significantly boosting APC candidates across various elections. With Buhari's absence, the APC must now rely on performance, party structure, and emerging leadership to maintain its dominance.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who took office in 2023, is focusing on governance achievements in security, infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, and community development to create a performance-based campaign. However, opposition figures like Ibrahim Aminu Chiranchi of the ADC argue that elections will now be fought on issues such as security and economic opportunities, rather than emotional attachments to a single leader.
