Bakare Questions Legality of NBBF Congress Ahead of Elections

Ayodele Bakare, the former D’Tigers coach and President of Comets Basketball Club of Lagos, raised concerns regarding the legality of the Nigeria Basketball Federation's (NBBF) Extraordinary Congress held on September 25, 2026, in Yola, Adamawa State. Bakare attended the congress as a delegate and expressed doubts about its constitutional basis in his personal account titled “The Memoirs of a Delegate to the 2026 NBBF Extraordinary Congress.” The NBBF Congress approved October 15, 2026, for the elective congress in Abuja and established an Electoral Committee and Elections Appeals Committee.

Bakare noted that only 39 of the 44 delegates attended the meeting, while the NBBF constitution requires 50 delegates. He questioned whether the congress was validly convened and highlighted that the NBBF President, Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida, suggested waiving constitutional anomalies, which the delegates rejected.

Bakare cited specific articles of the NBBF Constitution regarding the requirements for holding congresses, raising concerns about compliance with constitutional provisions.
