NBBF Congress Faces Allegations of Backdated Notice

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Congress, set for September 25, 2026, in Yola, Adamawa State, is under scrutiny amid allegations of a backdated notice. Ahmed Umar, a concerned stakeholder, reported that the Congress notice was dated September 4, yet stakeholders had not received formal invitations by September 13.

The NBBF Constitution requires that Congress notices be issued at least 21 days in advance, which would indicate a breach if the allegations are true. A letter dated September 10, signed by NBBF Secretary General Amina Amache, was later discovered, setting the Congress date but lacking a specific venue.

Critics argue that even this notice does not meet the 21-day requirement. Stakeholders from the South-East, South-South, and South-West regions fear that the short notice could limit their participation due to travel constraints.

Additionally, there are concerns that individuals aligned with the outgoing NBBF President may represent states unable to send delegates, potentially distorting the democratic process. The NBBF has not publicly addressed these allegations.
