Lock down Nigeria to tackle insecurity, Buratai tells FG

Former Chief of Army Staff, Buratai, has urged the Nigerian government to implement a lockdown to address the country's escalating insecurity issues. Buratai, who recently retired, emphasized the need for a mobilization of resources and people similar to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He highlighted the importance of a collective effort from all Nigerians, drawing parallels to the support shown during the Maiduguri flood crisis. Buratai's call for a national lockdown comes in the wake of a report by the National Human Rights Commission, which expressed concerns over increasing violations of the right to life and freedom.

He stressed that the issue of insecurity should not be left solely to the military but should be treated as a national crisis requiring sacrifices from everyone. Buratai warned that the insurgency could last longer than expected and emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive plan to combat terrorism and banditry effectively.
