Lookman Targets AFCON Qualifier Wins for Super Eagles

Ademola Lookman has expressed the Super Eagles' determination to start their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with wins against Madagascar on September 25 and Guinea-Bissau on September 29. Lookman acknowledged the challenges posed by both opponents but emphasized the team's focus on achieving victory.

The Super Eagles are looking to recover from the disappointment of missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being eliminated by DR Congo in the CAF playoff final. Nigeria has not missed an AFCON since 2017 and has consistently reached at least the semi-finals in recent editions, finishing third in 2019 and 2025, as well as being runners-up in 2023.

Lookman, who plays for Atletico Madrid, has been included in the squad by coach Eric Chelle and is expected to play a crucial role in the qualifiers. He has scored once in seven appearances for Atletico this season and will join the national team after the Madrid derby against Real Madrid.
