Lord of Ajasa Officially Becomes US Citizen

Olusegun Osaniyi, the pioneering Nigerian rapper known professionally as Lord of Ajasa, has achieved United States citizenship following completion of his naturalization proceedings. The Ondo State native announced the development through his Instagram account, where he posted photographs and video content documenting his achievement at a U.S.

Citizenship and Immigration Services facility. The announcement came in early October, with the artist posing formally alongside his wife Funmi while both held small American flags.

In his social media posts, Lord of Ajasa displayed his official naturalization certificate, marking a significant personal milestone for the artist who helped establish Yoruba-language rap as a distinct force within Nigerian hip-hop. The musician's transition to American citizenship prompted responses from fellow entertainers and fans across social media platforms, with colleagues from the music industry offering congratulatory messages.

Among those who publicly acknowledged the achievement were notable figures including rapper 9ice and music producer ID Cabasa, founder of Coded Tunes. The congratulatory messages reflected broader acknowledgment of Lord of Ajasa's historical importance in shaping indigenous Nigerian hip-hop, particularly during the early development of Yoruba rap as a commercial and cultural force.

The announcement has reignited discussions within Nigerian entertainment circles about Lord of Ajasa's legacy and influence on the country's music landscape prior to the emergence of contemporary Afrobeats. The rapper's move comes as an increasing number of Nigerian entertainers pursue opportunities abroad while maintaining connections to their home industry.
