Stakeholders Unite for Inclusive AI Development in Nigeria

On May 25, a significant event at the University of Lagos gathered stakeholders to discuss inclusive AI development in Nigeria. Organized by the MacArthur Foundation and Dataphyte, the event featured discussions on the potential of AI to improve public service delivery and address developmental challenges.

Kole Shettima, Africa Director of the MacArthur Foundation, stressed the importance of including diverse voices in AI policy to reflect the realities of communities across Nigeria. Oluseyi Olufemi, Country Director of Dataphyte, called for stronger coordination within Nigeria's AI ecosystem.

Nissa Madu highlighted the need for investment in underserved communities to ensure inclusive AI development. Other speakers, including Dr.

Femi Obidar and Ayuba Tudolo, discussed the importance of developing frameworks that reflect local realities and address AI-related risks. The event concluded with a commitment to build a collaborative AI ecosystem that benefits all Nigerians, regardless of geography or socio-economic background.
