The grandson of music icon Fela Kuti tied the knot with Onyenso in a civil wedding ceremony in Lagos in November 2023, which faced backlash on social media for mixing different ethnic backgrounds.

Made Kuti, in a recent post, expressed pity rather than anger towards the critic, emphasizing the importance of African unity and condemning ethnic prejudice that holds Africans back. He urged the critic to seek knowledge from visionary leaders like Kwame Nkrumah and Patrice Lumumba, emphasizing the need to free the mind from colonial miseducation.
