Experts Call for Degree Requirement for Presidential Candidates

On Tuesday, during the 127th inaugural lecture at the University of Uyo, Professor Nsikan Senam from the Department of Media Law and Ethics emphasized the need for the National Assembly to amend the 1999 Constitution. He proposed that a first degree should be the minimum qualification for individuals aspiring to contest for the presidency, instead of merely a school certificate.

Senam argued that disregarding professional qualifications contributes to corruption and unethical practices plaguing Nigeria. He highlighted that instilling a sense of professionalism among presidential candidates would help address issues of incompetence, crime, and lawlessness in the country.

Furthermore, he called for government support at all levels to encourage employee training and development, ensuring that the workforce is equipped with updated knowledge and skills relevant to evolving professional demands.
