Makinde to Announce 2027 Oyo Governorship Candidate in May

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced that he will publicly disclose his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election by the end of the first week of May. This decision is contingent upon a Supreme Court ruling regarding the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

In a newsletter released on Saturday, Makinde emphasized the importance of consulting widely with elders, stakeholders, and critics before making his decision. Several frontrunners have already emerged in the selection process, although their identities have not been disclosed.

Notable individuals mentioned include Nureni Adeniran, Segun Ogunwuyi, Taofeek Arapaja, and Adebo Ogundoyin, among others. The governor's announcement comes amid political speculation, including allegations involving former Oyo State First Lady Florence Ajimobi and claims of a plot against the governor by Ayodele Fayose.

Makinde has firmly denied these allegations, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated.
