Malawi Stuns Nigeria 3-2 in WAFCON Opener

In a surprising turn of events at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Malawi stunned Nigeria with a 3-2 victory in their Group C opener held in Rabat. The nine-time champions, Nigeria, failed to register a shot on target in the first half despite dominating possession.

The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute when Temwa Chawinga scored after evading Nigeria's goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie. Just four minutes later, Tabitha Chawinga extended Malawi's lead by rounding Nnadozie for another goal.

Nigeria managed to score in the 89th minute through Rasheedat Ajibade's penalty kick following a handball by Rose Alufandika. However, Temwa Chawinga secured her second goal just before the final whistle, with Uchenna Kanu scoring a late consolation for Nigeria.

This loss places Nigeria at the bottom of Group C as they prepare for their next match against Zambia.
