Lagos Resident Accuses Police of Extortion Scheme

Nasir Ahmed, a Lagos resident, accused three policemen of extorting him after they stopped his vehicle on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, claiming he was driving against traffic. The incident occurred on a Thursday while Ahmed was en route to work and had just left Pinnacle Filling Station.

According to his friend, Abdulqadr Hanzolah, the officers, one identified as Michael Monday, demanded ₦500,000 for Ahmed's release, later reducing the amount to ₦250,000. The policemen drove Ahmed through various locations, using his vehicle for operations.

They instructed him to transfer ₦6,000 to an OPay account belonging to Lukumon Aro Olaseni and later attempted to have him transfer money to another account, which failed due to network issues. The officers also searched Ahmed's vehicle for cash and took him to a POS stand in Ilupeju, where he withdrew ₦50,000.

Ahmed reported that he had to borrow money from friends to meet the demands of the officers.
