Liverpool Negotiates Cody Gakpo Transfer with Man City

Liverpool initiated formal discussions with Manchester City on Saturday concerning the transfer of Cody Gakpo, as Pep Guardiola seeks to acquire the Dutch attacker before the Tuesday transfer deadline. Gakpo has emerged as a primary target for both Manchester City and Tottenham during the January transfer window.

Although Gakpo prefers a move to Manchester City, Tottenham recently made an unsuccessful inquiry about his availability. The 27-year-old forward is expected to leave Merseyside before the transfer window closes, especially following the Premier League's agreement to purchase Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola for up to £123 million.

Liverpool is reportedly seeking around £85 million for Gakpo, who was signed from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 for approximately £35 million. He has scored 33 Premier League goals in 91 appearances and has started the current season well, contributing an assist and a goal in recent matches.

A late transfer could leave Liverpool with limited options upfront due to Hugo Ekitike's injury.
