Manchester United falls to Brighton in League Cup upset

On Wednesday, Manchester United faced a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Brighton in the League Cup at Old Trafford after initially leading 2-0. Shea Lacey scored the opening goal for United within eight minutes, followed by a second goal from Mount just two minutes later, capitalizing on a saved shot from Marcus Rashford.

However, Brighton equalized just before half-time through Charalampos Kostoulas, who took advantage of defensive errors. The comeback continued in the 65th minute when Pascal Gross scored after a header from Luka Vuskovic.

Maxim De Cuyper then completed the turnaround five minutes later, finishing from close range after receiving a pass from Kostoulas. Despite substitutions including Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha, United could not find an equalizer.

This defeat marked United's third loss in six matches across all competitions and their second consecutive home loss, with Brighton having eliminated them from two domestic cups in nine months.
