Nigeria's Marine Ministry and World Bank Boost Blue Economy

The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, led by Permanent Secretary Fatima Sugra Tabi Mahmood, is intensifying its collaboration with the World Bank to implement Nigeria's Blue Economy Strategy. A high-level technical cooperation meeting was convened to assess progress on the comprehensive Blue Economy framework, aimed at strengthening governance, improving marine spatial planning, and enhancing data systems.

Mahmood commended the World Bank delegation, which included Marcelo Hector Acerbi and Yolanda Molar, for their significant contributions, particularly in data development and analytical outputs. The partnership will prioritize investment mobilization and the identification of bankable projects capable of attracting funding.

Molar emphasized the importance of establishing a robust blue data bank and advancing integrated coastal zone management in Nigeria. The initiative also aims to develop blue clusters across selected states to unlock high-value investment opportunities in the maritime sector, ensuring environmental sustainability and improved fisheries management.
