NIMASA's Dr. Mobereola Prioritizes Indigenous Maritime Growth

Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), reiterated the administration's commitment to enhancing indigenous capacity within Nigeria's maritime sector under the cabotage regime. This statement was made during a tour of the African Pioneer Lagos Vessel, a Nigerian-flagged offshore Diving Support Vessel (DSV) measuring approximately 143 meters in length and with a deadweight of about 8,000 metric tonnes.

Mobereola expressed satisfaction with the vessel's capabilities, stating that Nigerian-flagged vessels should take precedence over foreign ones. He mentioned efforts to automate the Nigerian ship registry to attract more vessels.

Mr. Taofeek Adegbite, Chief Executive Officer of Marine Platforms Limited, acknowledged the benefits his company has gained from the cabotage regime and expressed pride in operating vessels under the Nigerian flag. He called for more ship owners to register their vessels in the Nigerian Ship registry, emphasizing the importance of developing local maritime manpower.
