NIMASA Advances Digitization to Enhance Maritime Efficiency

At the 2026 Maritime Training Summit and Awards of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) in Lagos, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director General of NIMASA, represented by Assistant Director, Public Relations, Daniel Kajo, announced the agency's commitment to digitization to eliminate operational delays in the maritime industry. Mobereola stated that innovation is crucial for the sector, which cannot achieve progress using outdated methods.

He identified digitalization, collaboration, and strategic synergy as essential to NIMASA's transformation efforts. He noted that excessive human interaction in maritime processes has led to corruption and inefficiency.

The digitalization initiative aims to enhance efficiency and strengthen revenue administration by addressing manual process loopholes. Mobereola highlighted successful collaborations that resulted in a four-year period without pirate attacks and the lifting of a 12-year entry condition by the United States Coast Guard on vessels calling at Nigerian ports.

He also mentioned that 134 cadets from the National Seafarers Development Programme are being deployed for sea-time training in the UK, India, and Romania, and that three key maritime laws are under review by the National Assembly.
