Mbappe Becomes All-Time World Cup Goalscorer with 22 Goals

Kylian Mbappe, the French striker, has become the all-time World Cup record goalscorer, achieving a total of 22 goals across three World Cup appearances. This milestone was reached following his brace in the ongoing 2026 tournament, allowing him to surpass Lionel Messi's record of 21 goals.

Mbappe is the first player to score double-digit goals in a single World Cup tournament since Gerd Muller in 1970. He initially burst onto the world stage as a 19-year-old during the 2018 World Cup, scoring four goals and helping France lift the trophy while also winning the Young Player of the Tournament award.

In the 2022 World Cup, he scored eight goals, including a hat trick in the final, although France lost to Argentina. Mbappe is expected to continue his scoring streak, aiming for the Golden Boot unless Messi scores twice in the final.

He expressed a preference for focusing on team success rather than individual accolades.
