Residents Sue Microsoft Over Noise Pollution in Wisconsin

Residents living close to Microsoft's Fairwater data centre in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, have initiated a class-action lawsuit against the company, alleging that the facility emits excessive noise that disrupts their daily lives. Filed on Wednesday at the U.S.

District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the lawsuit was brought by three residents from Sturtevant, Wisconsin. The plaintiffs claim that Microsoft's operations have caused property damages through private nuisance and negligence due to persistent noise from diesel generators and HVAC equipment.

They argue that Microsoft has failed to implement effective noise-control measures, allowing the noise to affect nearby neighborhoods. The lawsuit references complaints made to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and requests financial compensation, although the amount is unspecified.

Microsoft acknowledged the legal action and stated its commitment to being a good neighbor. The Fairwater facility is part of Microsoft's planned data centre development, which is expected to expand in the coming years.
