Military Operation in Shiroro Neutralizes 70 Bandits

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a statement on Sunday night, clarifying that a military air interdiction operation conducted in Shiroro, Niger State, successfully targeted armed bandits, resulting in the neutralization of 70 terrorists. Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that the operation was based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed criminal elements in the area.

The operation, which took place on May 10, 2026, involved multiple air strikes on identified terrorist enclaves, specifically in the villages of Katerma, Bokko, Kusasu, and Kuduru. Reports suggesting civilian casualties were dismissed as inaccurate, with Onoja stating that residents had voluntarily relocated prior to the operation as a precautionary measure.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and urged the media and public to refrain from spreading unverifiable reports that could undermine security operations and troop morale.
