Army and DSS Foil Bandit Attack in Niger State

On Tuesday, a joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local volunteer forces successfully thwarted a planned large-scale attack by bandits on communities in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The operation was prompted by credible intelligence regarding the bandits' advance towards the Bagna and Erena communities.

The security forces strategically positioned themselves to lay an ambush as the bandits approached, resulting in heavy resistance and significant casualties among the attackers. Reports indicate that a score of bandits were killed, while others fled towards Makuba and Allawa.

Local sources revealed that approximately 300 bandits were armed with dangerous weapons and motorcycles. Residents expressed gratitude towards the security forces and local volunteers for their gallantry, which prevented a major disaster, highlighting the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local volunteer forces in enhancing security across communities in the country.
