Military Denies Civilian Casualties in Shiroro Airstrikes

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria, represented by Major General Michael Onoja, rejected reports of civilian casualties following aerial operations in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. The military stated that the airstrikes, conducted on May 10, 2026, were precise and guided, targeting only confirmed terrorist locations based on intelligence reports.

The operations aimed at an armed bandit group converging in the area, specifically around villages including Katerma, Bokko, Kusasu, and Kuduru. The Nigerian Army's UAV command reported significant success, neutralizing 70 bandits, particularly in Kusasu, and observing surviving elements regrouping and moving towards Zango.

The DHQ maintained that claims of civilian casualties were unfounded and urged caution in circulating unverified reports that could undermine ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. The military reaffirmed its commitment to operations against armed groups while adhering to international humanitarian standards.
