Military Investigates Civilian Casualties in Niger Airstrikes

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) is conducting an investigation into alleged civilian casualties resulting from airstrikes in Niger State. On Sunday, the military confirmed that airstrikes in Kusasu, Shiroro Local Government Area, eliminated approximately 70 terrorists and injured several others.

Major General Michael Onoja, the Defence Media Operations spokesperson, stated that the airstrikes were executed based on credible intelligence targeting specific terrorist locations. Despite claims circulating on social media about civilian deaths, the military insists that the operation was meticulously planned to avoid civilian casualties.

Reports indicate that around 12 people were killed in the vicinity of Auta Awododo, with local politicians expressing concern over repeated losses of innocent lives due to terrorist activities. The military has urged the media and public to exercise restraint in reporting unverified claims that could undermine troop morale and public confidence in ongoing security operations.
