Military Warns Against Fake AI-Generated Video

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria has raised an alarm regarding a fake video circulating on social media that purportedly features Chief of Defence Staff General Oluyede. In a statement released on Tuesday, Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, described the footage as entirely fabricated and not produced by any official organ of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The DHQ indicated that the video is part of a deliberate misinformation campaign aimed at misleading the public and creating confusion regarding military leadership. An investigation revealed that the material shows clear signs of digital manipulation and appears to have been generated using artificial intelligence technology.

The military expressed concern over the increasing use of advanced digital tools to create deceptive content involving senior officers, noting that such actions could damage public trust and interfere with ongoing efforts to safeguard national security. The DHQ urged the public to exercise caution when consuming online content and to avoid sharing unverified materials related to military operations.
