Nigerian Mine Marshals Record Major Gains in Reclaiming Illegal Sites, Boosting Revenue

Dele Alake, speaking at a South West leader conference in Akure, emphasized the significant gains made by Mine Marshals in reclaiming 90 illegal mining sites and prosecuting 300 offenders. The initiative is part of broader reforms championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aiming to boost Nigeria's mining sector.

The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development reported a rise in revenue from $8.6 billion in 2022 to $38 billion in 2024, with the South West region contributing $7.2 billion. Notable projects like the Segilola Gold Project in Osun State showcase the sector's potential.

The reforms also focus on community development agreements to ensure local communities benefit from mining activities.
